Joining as a Cadet

So, you have heard about the Air Cadet Organisation and you want to find out more or you would like to join. Here is some information that will help prepare you for joining and air cadet squadron.

Just so you know, we are not a recreuiting organisation for the Armed Services, if you choose to go on to a military career that's great, but we don't force any career ideas upon you.

The cadet experience is open to everyone, so whatever your nationality, background or ability, whether you're male or female, if you're between 13 and 16 years old you can join us.

Joining the Air Cadet Organisation gives you access to an extensive range of worthwhile opportunities both academic and extra curricular, these include sports, target shooting, flying gliding and adventurous training. All of which are discussed further in our activities section. As well as the extra curricular activities mentioned being in the air cadet organisation provides you with an extensive knowledge of the history of the RAF, how the RAF works and much more. You also have the opportunity to take part in the BTEC in public services therefore providing you with extra academic qualifications.

We have high standards to maintain as we are a 'military' youth organisation and you'll naturally take pride in your uniform (all uniform is supplied) and appearance. You'll be well mannered and self-disciplined.

All of our squadrons welcome personal visits by potential cadets (ideally accompanied by a parent or guardian), during one of their Parade Nights – these are held twice a week. Some squadrons recruit throughout the year, others have specific entry dates. Just come along and see if you like it - you don't have to join, but at least check out what you might be missing.
