Middlesex Wing Field Day & Royal Review

His Royal Highness The Duke of
Gloucester with Air Commodore Stuart (Commandant Air Cadets) and Wing
Commander Davison (Officer Commanding Middlesex
Wing) On Saturday 12th September Middlesex Wing held its annual field day, the event is held to bring together squadrons from all over the wing to celebrate the successes from the year and to take part in some inter squadron competitions such as Aircraft Recognition, Aero Modelling, Drill and Uniform Inspections as well as getting to meet people that you wouldn't normally see.

This year however the day followed a slightly different programme as on Sunday 13th September the Wing was holding an extra parade, this was to be our Royal Review by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO. Following the usual competitions as mentioned earlier the Wing then set about with a rehearsal for the following day. This involved all of the staff and cadets being briefed as to what was going to happen and then doing a rehearsal for the review itself. The rehearsal was very successful and by the end of the afternoon everyone was ready for the following day's events.

On Sunday morning Staff and Cadets started to arrive from 1100, as they arrived they made final checks of their uniform ensuring that it was of the highest standard for the parade. Once everyone had arrived the entire wing formed up and marched on to the parade square lead by the wing band.

A few moments later the VIPs were driven on to parade, these included His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO and Commandant Air Cadets Air Commodore Stuart.

HRH presented several awards and trophies to both Staff and Cadets and made a short speech.

After the awards and speeches the wing did a march past and then marched off of the parade square to get ready for the activities that the HRH was now going to go and look at, these included; a first aid demonstration, a Duke of Edinburgh's Award stand, Cadets using a mobile climbing wall and much more.

Following the displays HRH was then taken to a reception in the Officers Mess at RAF Uxbridge where Staff and Cadets had the opportunity to meet with him and discuss their experiences with the Air Cadet Organisation.

Overall the weekend was extremely successful and great fun was had by all.
